Epos ES-7N Loudspeaker

Designed by acoustic maestro Karl-Heinz Fink, the Epos ES-7N is a compact, 2-way bookshelf loudspeaker engineered for real-world homes. Featuring an innovative rear-panel crossover switch, the ES-7N adapts seamlessly whether placed on open stands in free space or tucked inside standard bookshelf units like IKEA Kallax. Equipped with the same 28mm ceramic-coated aluminum tweeter found in the flagship ES-14N and a custom 130mm injection-moulded mid/bass driver, the ES-7N delivers exceptional rhythmic drive, open soundstaging, and natural musicality without boomy bass response.

Epos ES-7N Loudspeaker: Flagship Performance in a Compact Footprint

The Epos ES-7N reimagines the modern bookshelf speaker by solving one of Hi-Fi’s biggest challenges: acoustic room interaction. Engineered under the leadership of renowned designer Karl-Heinz Fink, the ES-7N delivers full-scale, transparent audiophile performance in an enclosure small enough to fit seamlessly into real living spaces[cite: 34].

Key Features & Acoustic Engineering

1. Smart Placement Crossover Switch

Unlike conventional standmount speakers that require ideal room positioning to sound their best, the ES-7N features a rear-panel toggle switch that modifies the internal crossover network:

  • Up Position (Semi-Free Space): Ideal for placement on dedicated 70cm stands, 30–50 cm away from rear walls (86 dB sensitivity).
  • Down Position (Boundary / Bookshelf): Tailored for placement directly near walls or inside actual bookshelves (89 dB sensitivity), preventing boomy low-end build-up while keeping mids clean and articulate.

2. Flagship High-Frequency Driver

The ES-7N shares the exact same 28mm ceramic-coated aluminum dome tweeter as the flagship ES-14N[cite: 36]. Engineered without ferrofluid for maximum openness and dynamic speed, it provides pristine treble resolution, decay, and effortless detail.

3. Custom Injection-Moulded Mid/Bass Driver

A brand-new 130mm Mica-filled polypropylene woofer handles frequencies below 2,000 Hz. Built with a low-hysteresis rubber surround, Nomex spider, and high-power magnet system with an impedance control ring, this driver produces tight, articulate, and surprising low-end punch without masking subtle vocal textures.

4. Resonance-Controlled Cabinet Construction

The enclosure features a dual-layer construction using 2 x 8mm MDF panels bonded with a high-loss viscoelastic damping layer to cancel cabinet vibrations. Combined with a side-mounted, selectively damped internal port, the ES-7N maintains stereo image stability and uncoloured acoustic playback.
